Saint Moritz

St Moritz is probably the most famous of all the Swiss resorts. Its strikingly beautiful location in Switzerland’s Engadine Valley, superb ski slopes and off-piste options, and its sensational après-ski scene have made it world famous. It is the Mecca of the rich and famous – glitzy, glamorous and very expensive. The glitterati throng there all through the year and it offers a lifestyle that only a select few can afford. More than just a skiing destination, it is a place to be seen in, and to be written about in the fashion magazines and photographed on the slopes in designer ski gear and accessories.

The skiing here is of course excellent, particularly for the expert skier. St Moritz offers eighty km of ski runs of all levels, with over forty percent of the 88 slopes suitable for experts. The resort’s longest slope is eight kilometers. One can access an additional 270km of slopes from two ski areas that are linked to St. Moritz. The combined slopes are connected by 56 lifts and in addition to the downhill runs there are excellent off-piste options. The 180 km of cross-country routes and a snowboard park are other attractions at this glamorous resort, with nearly all year-round sunshine and excellent snow record.

Cross-country skiers revel in lovely tracks around the large frozen lake at this resort, and the off-piste skiing on the face of the Piz Nair is also very popular. Other off-slope options are mountaineering, paragliding, bob-sledding, horse races and snow cricket. The frozen lake in winter provides the perfect venue for ice-skating and horse-drawn sleigh rides. St Moritz has hosted the Winter Olympics twice and its world-famous Cresta Run remains unavailable to women tobogganers.

The popularity of this resort is as much for its après-ski as it is for its skiing. People come to St. Moritz all year round and it is a popular haunt of the rich and famous. The ritzy nightlife, top-class hotels and gourmet restaurants are major attractions, as are its stylish shops and boutiques and high end cultural events. St Moritz is famous for its glitzy après-ski scene at its casinos, bars and nightclubs, as well as its vibrant concert venues.
